Liberation Day is an annual event that offers music, dancing and songs as well as advice on topics like reducing the fear of crime, pensions, fire safety, health and social care.
It is hosted by the Safer South Derbyshire Partnership for South Derbyshire residents who are over 50 years old.
A range of organisations such as Arthritis Care, Get Active in the Forest, Goldcard Transport, the Notts and Derbys Energy Efficiency Advice Centre and the Royal National Institute for the Deaf are at the event.
The secret of the success of Liberation Day is that a wide range of information and advice on many important issues affecting older people is on offer under one roof. We also provide a full day of professional entertainment and refreshments, all free of charge. The event has now become so popular that we have to limit entry to those who have pre-registered before the day.
Our regulars will know that each year there is a different theme for the Liberation Day and for 2008, we chose an ambitious one for landlocked South Derbyshire by having a Seaside Special! The main entertertainment was a gloriously happy "Roll Out The Barrel" show, provided by well-known entertainers, Terry Bradford and Sussie Arvesen. Also returning by popular demand was Rob Murray and his talented group of young musicians and entertainers.
