You can pay your Council Tax by:
- Online - Pay now using this website. (Note: a 1.9% surcharge is applied to credit card payments, but no charge is applied for debit cards)
- Direct Debit - this is the easiest way to pay-simply ring the Council Tax section for a direct debit form using the details below, or download and print the form.
- Post Office - You can use your payment swipe card at any Post Office. There is no charge for this service (Paypoint – outlets). Cheques should be made payable to 'Post Office Counters Ltd'
- Cash or Cheque - you can pay at the Council's offices (see below for address and opening times)
- Debit/Credit card payment - you can pay by this method at all Council cash office -by telephone and by post (see paying your bills for details of cash office address and telephone number
- Telephone - If you would like an operator to take your payment over the telephone, please call (01283) 595795 during office hours. To use our touchtone system, please call (01283) 595865 at any time. You will be guided through the process and use the keys on your telephone to enter your responses.
How we protect your information
To ensure that your card details remain secure, you will only be able to make online payments if you have a browser which supports Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, which is an industry standard for internet payments. This means all of your personal and card details are protected using 128 bit encryption when your details are transmitted over the Internet and makes it virtually impossible for anyone else to discover and use your details. Examples of browsers which support SSL:

- AOL 5 and above
- Opera 5 and above
- Safari
- Firefox 1+
How to check that you are using a secure site
You can check your level of security by using your mouse to hover over a padlock icon in the bottom right hand corner of your browser window (it should be a closed padlock). When you do this, it should tell you that it is SSL Secured 128 bit.
If your equipment does not allow you to use the online payment system, then you can make a payment by telephone or by visiting us.
