Energy saving light bulbs
By replacing an ordinary 100W bulb with a low energy equivalent, you could save up to £10 per year on your electricity bill. Although low energy bulbs are more expensive (around £5 each) they can last up to 12 times longer than an ordinary bulb. This means that the bulb more than pays for itself and you don't have to replace it nearly as often!
Energy efficient appliances
When you buy new electrical goods, such as fridges, freezers, cookers and washing machines, it's a good idea to check the energy rating of the appliance and see how it compares to others.
Energy efficient appliances don't necessarily cost more but they do save you money off your bills. For example, if you replace a 10 year old fridge freezer with a new 'A' rated appliance, you could save an average of £45 per year!
