South Derbyshire Tenants Forum (SDTF)

The forum was re-launched nearly 3 years ago now and has attracted new members with fresh ideas. There are fourteen members to date who are actively involved with Housing Services, working closely with officers and councillors to look at the running of Housing Services. They are involved in the operational aspects of Housing Services and policy / strategic areas.

SDTF has a number of sub-groups who focus on key areas of the Housing Services including in the decision making process of any changes within the services.

The sub-groups have been involved in a number of improvements to the housing services. Some of the areas SDTF have been involved in are:

• selection of new contractors
• setting repairs targets
• introducing appointments and Saturday morning opening (tradesmen)
• customer feedback and satisfaction
• challenging and improving Housing Services (by attending Challenging Days)
• proposed policy changes

These are just a few examples of tenants' involvement in decisions made in partnership with Housing Services.

Currently there are 8 sub-groups. These are detailed below:

• Repairs and Improvement
• Sheltered Housing
• Homelessness, Housing Options and Allocations
• Events Panel
• Strategic Panel
• Tenant Inspectors
• Information Centre
• Editorial Board (Housing News newsletter)

These groups are expanding to ensure tenants have a say in all aspects of the Housing Services and new members are welcomed. So why not ask yourself:

The forum aims to work independently and create opportunity for all tenants in South Derbyshire to be involved in the decisions made about their services and homes.

Become part of the tenants group that makes decisions on your behalf. The South Derbyshire Tenants Forum are looking for new members to bring new ideas. The Forum meet every 6 weeks at locations within the District.
