Derbyshire County Council own the Woodyard Lane site and South Derbyshire District Council has managed the site for over 20 years. Housing Services manages the Woodyard Lane site as it accommodates gypsies who want to settle long-term as apposed to short stay. Therefore the site, and the gypsy community have become an integral part of the social fabric of Foston.
The site is located just off the A50; an identified, traditional travelling route for gypsies and travellers.
The site currently consists of 22 plots. Each plot has its own bathroom / shower room and a room to house a washing machine and other kitchen items. Each plot also has its own individual power supply and water connection enabling self-contained accommodation.
Site Allocations
People over 18 years may apply for a plot, however the allocation of a plot will be based upon the need for settled accommodation. Priority allocation will be given under the following circumstances:
- each child of school age
- per application where a member of the household is over 60 and wants to stop travelling
- per household for disabling conditions or ongoing illnesses that require treatment (medical evidence required)
- per household for life threatening or deteriorating conditions that need hospital treatment
- travellers who we owe a duty of care within homelessness legislation
