The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 aims to help people who have been convicted of a criminal offence and who have since lived on the right side of the law.
When a conviction has been 'spent', the convicted person does not have to reveal the conviction when applying for a job. However, there are jobs for which all convictions must be declared on the application form.
If your sentence was less than two and a half years, the conviction may become spent after a period of time called the 'rahabilitation period'. This period will vary according to the type of sentence.
