Pollution Control - Water

Rivers and underground water

Swarkestone BridgeThe External LinkEnvironment Agency is responsible for maintaining or improving the quality of water in England, and ensuring that pollution is cleaned up.External Link Severn Trent Water, External Link South Staffordshire Water and other companies have certain responsibilities in our district, but we may become involved if the pollution is related to a drainage problem.

Water supplies and bathing water

Mains water is largely the  responsibility of External Link Severn Trent Water and External Link South Staffordshire Water, but we may become involved if the domestic water supply has to be interrupted for quality reasons.

There are a number of private water supplies and under the Private Water Supplies Regulations 1991 we are responsible for monitoring quality.

We are not obliged to monitor swimming pools and jaccuzzis but we can test if there is a concern.
