Sports Development in South Derbyshire
The Sport & Youth Development team works in partnership with schools, clubs, sports governing bodies and the County Sports Partnership (Derbyshire Sport)to provide and develop sporting opportunities for local people. This includes support with financial grants, development plans, club accreditation schemes and Coach Education.

South Derbyshire Sport
Sports Development also helps co-ordinate South Derbyshire Sport (the District Sports Forum for voluntary sports clubs) and sport specific focus groups across the district which currently include: Cricket and Football.
South Derbyshire Sport is made up of individuals, clubs and organisations that take part in or have an interest in sport in South Derbyshire. The help of a number of the District’s sportspeople has already been enlisted.

- Treasurer: Dave Fern (Honorary Secretary of Lullington Park Cricket Club)
- The Sport and Youth Development Manager for South Derbyshire District Council also plays a key role in supporting and advising the group.
What Are Its Aims?
It has been set up to develop a strong voice for sport in South Derbyshire. This should help secure better facilities and more opportunities and as a result improve standards in sport across the District.
The Forum members have set the following objectives:
- To represent South Derbyshire sport at district and county level.
- To lobby for increased resources from the public and private sectors.
- To share good practice and information between sports clubs.
- To support the recruitment and training of coaches and sports leaders.
- To attract funding from external sources to develop sport.
- To organise events and training to promote local sport.
- To raise awareness of member clubs so that more people get involved.
Successes To Date
The group has successfully lobbied for a full sized astroturf pitch at the Pingle School, held two District Sports Awards Ceremonies to reward local athletes who perform at a high level in a variety of sports and organised a local FUNDay Through the Forest event to assist clubs raise money for their own cause.

This group has recently been re-established. If you assist with the management, administration or coaching of a local South Derbyshire football club and would like to attend the next meeting then please get in touch. The group is attended by the Sport and Youth Development Manager, local club representatives and a Derbyshire FA Football Development Officer.
