Extreme SportOn the penultimate day before the end of voting for Get Active in The Forest in the National Lottery Awards, the scheme is helping to organise the first ever South Derbyshire Invitational Extreme Sports Competition. Get Active in the Forest, working with South Derbyshire District Council and South Derbyshire School Sports Partnership has opened this competitive event for secondary school pupils from South Derbyshire, East Staffordshire, Derby City and Amber Valley. - More about Extreme Sport

Smokefree in South DerbyshireIt's a year since England went smokefree on 1 July 2007. In Derbyshire it's helped 5766 people quit smoking. In South Derbyshire the softly softly approach has been used with an information campaign with local businesses before the smoking ban began. Says Cllr Heather Wheeler, Leader of South Derbyshire District Council, "The South Derbyshire way is to inform and educate people before we consider prosecution. By working with businesses we have had zero prosecutions so far in our District. In our Corporate Plan we make clear our intentions to improve the health of our community. Businesses, through supporting the smokefree legislation, are helping us in our work. - More about Smokefree in South Derbyshire

No fouling placeSouth Derbyshire District Council is asking people if they want a dog control order to cover the whole of District so that you might not have to tiptoe through the mess that some canines leave behind. If the dog control order is set up, South Derbyshire District Council’s Safer Neighbourhood Wardens would have increased powers to keep areas free from dog mess. - More about No fouling place
