Construction and construction products sector

South Derbyshire has a significant construction sector with more than 300 companies ranging from the domestic scale to those involved in major civil engineering projects. The sector is presently very healthy with good prospects for the future.

It has benefited from growing demand for housing and recent investment in public infrastructure projects and facilities such as schools and hospitals. South Derbyshire also benefits from the proximity of raw materials, such as aggregates extracted from the Trent valley.

Businesses include a number of large supply chain companies manufacturing and distributing construction products, such as Bison Concrete Products, and others that are recognised as innovators in their fields such as Framing Solutions and Roger Bullivant.

The East Midlands is currently experiencing the fastest and largest growth in construction projects outside Greater London and has serious construction trade skills shortages, presenting a real need for increased and improved training for skilled craftspeople.
