The aim of the Vision document is to set out ways of raising the profile of the town as a centre for retailing, service and leisure, and to guide efforts to enhance its vitality and viability. The original document was published in 2001 and substantial progress has been made in achieving the Vision through the combined efforts of the public, private and voluntary/community sectors. A decade on, the completion of phase two of the town centre improvement works and the imminent completion of the new retail and leisure development provides an appropriate time to refresh the strategy.
A first round of consultation has been completed, together with an analysis of the town centre. Following a review of the research and consultation, three themed Draft Masterplans have been created:
The three Draft Masterplans together with the Summary of Views and Questionnaire can be downloaded from the bottom of this page under 'Related documents'. A collection of diagrams illustrating the background research and assessment of the town centre can also be downloaded from the bottom of this page. We also welcome your comments on this work.
