Free or nearly free

Here are some top ideas for doing something for nothing (or almost nothing).
Cycling Group at Rosliston Forestry Centre

Out and about

Get out and about in our beautiful countryside with a guided walk, or see how many local public rights of way you can find - and walk them.

Find that old bike, clean it down and explore the network of cycle routes.

Become a volunteer with the Countryside Service. Help to improve the great outdoors by planting trees and cutting hedges.

Look out for free exhibitions and craft fairs. Just look in our events diary to find out what's happening and when.

The National Forest Breaks website has lots of suggestions for a fun day out for free or nearly free

Home and garden

Start a makeover in your garden. Clear away anything dead, tidy up the borders, clean the patio and mow the lawn. Either compost the waste or use your brown bin.

Have a spring clean; go through cupboards, drawers and get them organised. Try to re-use, recycle or freecycle anything that you don't want. You can donate useful furniture to the YMCA Happy Homes scheme.

Reading and study

Surf the net for free at all libraries across Derbyshire. Library members can access the internet for free.

Borrow a book rather than buying one. At your local library you can enjoy the latest bestseller for free. Join the library.

Brush up on your maths and English with free Skills for Life courses.
