Community Events Toolkit - Fireworks

There are many safety issues and hazards associated with using fireworks at events, organisers should seriously consider the health and safety implications of using fireworks before the event and whether they are necessary.

Department of Trade and Industry's (DTI) fireworks website.  The DTI produce downloadable guidance leaflets and materials for organisers of firework displays for the public, retailers selling fireworks, schools and the media, including the Firework Safety Code.

Professionally organised displays are regulated by the Health and Safety Executive who publish two booklets - 'Giving Your Own Firework Display' and 'Working Together', aimed at organisers of events where a professional firework display company fires the display. Visit the Health and Safety Executive's fireworks website

In addition the Food and Health and Safety Section of Environmental Health organise a Firework Registration Scheme for organised events at commercial premises within the district in conjunction with Derbyshire Fire and Rescue. Registration packs are available a few weeks before bonfire night.
