Event organisers need to assess staff and volunteer roles to identify whether a full external CRB check is needed or if a self declaration form would be sufficient.
Generally, a CRB check would be needed for staff or volunteers responsible for children/young people/vulnerable adults or those who come in regular contact with this group and may be the only adult with them.
The Criminal Records Bureau, an Executive Agency of the Home Office, provides wider access to criminal record information through its disclosure service.
This service enables organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors to make safer recruitment decisions by identifying candidates who may be unsuitable for certain work, especially that involve children or vulnerable adults.
There is a fee to be CRB checked, however the service is free to volunteers. South Derbyshire CVS can provide support about what you need to CRB check volunteers and paid staff. They can also provide information on organisations that can assist with CRB checks for groups. Contact South Derbyshire CVS on 01283 219 761
Applications can be submitted online. Visit the Criminal Records Bureau website for all CRB information including why you might need a check and how you go about getting one, to receiving the results, you’ll find out what happens to your information in each step of the process.
