Roads - street cleaning programme

We are responsible for keeping the area clean and free of litter.

We will:

  • Continuously clean Swadlincote town centre
  • Clean Melbourne town centre once a week
  • Clean the main shopping streets in Church Gresley, Newhall and Woodville once a week
  • Clean all streets in the district at least three times a year
  • Clean bus shelters and lay-bys at least four times a year
  • Carry out two weed control treatments to all the streets in the district twice a year
  • Empty all road gullies in the district once a year (gullies on main roads are emptied twice a year)
  • Empty litter bins and dog hygiene bins in the district once a week
  • Remove accumulations of rubbish from Council land
  • Help with your locally organised clean-ups

Our street cleaning services also include a rapid response unit called the Clean Team to clean up flytipping, litter and dog fouling.

The Clean Team may be contacted 24 hours per day, seven days a week on Freefone 0800 587 2349.

We also allocate money each year to all the Parish Councils in the district to enable them to supplement our street cleaning activities.

You can help us by:

  • Being tidy with your litter and chewing gum
  • Using the free refuse tips
  • Having waste collection contracts for your business
  • Not leaving your dog's mess for others
  • Not "Fly Posting" - it's untidy and illegal
  • Not parking where you want us to clean
  • Reporting your concerns to us
