Housing benefit and council tax benefit can help you to pay your rent and council tax if you are on a low income.
A partner is someone you are married to or have a civil partnership with or someone you live with as if you are married to them or have a civil partnership with.
You can claim Second Adult Rebate if you are responsible for the council tax bill and you are single but there are other people living in your home who are on a low income.
If your partner is a disregarded person, such as a student, you may also be able to claim second adult rebate. If you claim main council tax benefit we will check entitlement to second adult rebate at the same time, and award you the higher of the two benefits.
If you claim income support or job seekers allowance you can claim through the The Job Centre Plus.
If you are making a claim for pension credits you can claim housing benefit / council tax benefit at the same time with The Pension Service
You can claim directly with us by completing an application form.
