It comprises:
The shield comprises a green background with two gold sheaves (representing agriculture) and a gold chevron with three black rings (representing the iron pipe industry). The gold chevron is masoned with black to suggest the yellow brick industry. There are also three wheatsheaves which represent the three wheat-sheaves of Ranulph de Blunderville, Earl of Chester, whose widow Matilda moved his priory to Repton in the late 12th Century. Across the top of the shield runs a 'chief' bearing the famous Gresley pattern of white ermine tails on a red background. 1074 is the earliest record of the shield.
The crest is surmounted by the closed helm. At the base is the black mound with flames rising from it which denotes the coal-mining and fireclay industries. On the mound is a tower which depicts the cooling towers of Drakelow Power Station. The white clouds bellowing from the tower represents steam.
The supporters represent notable local families in Gresley and Stanhope. On the left is a lion from the Gresley family crest. On the right is a wolf supporter of the Stanhope Earls of Harrington.
The motto is Dued mon Droit - "The earth our wealth" in reference to the coal, fireclay and yellow brick industries and agriculture, all symbolised in the arms.
