Property Services

The Property Services Department is part of the Finance and Property Services Function within the Council and lies within the Corporate Services Division.
Business Property

The service is responsible for:

  • Dealing with the proactive daily management of the council’s investment property portfolio, which includes retail units, industrial units and other non-operational interests in land and property.
  • Undertaking land and property disposals, ensuring capital receipts are maximised.
  • Undertaking the marketing of all void property.
  • Negotiating, enforcing and varying restrictive covenants where the Council has retained the benefit of those covenants to protect and support the value of its wider property interests.
  • The granting of easements and rights of way, protecting the council's interests.
  • Undertaking the valuation of council owned assets. Please note that the Property Services function will only provide this service to the council and this service is not available to general members of the public. To find a local surveyor in your area, please refer to RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors).
  • Dealing with strategic asset management to ensure all assets are fit for purpose or providing a suitable rate of return for the Council as an investment. The council's current Asset Management Plan can be viewed below.
  • Dealing with land ownership enquiries and applications to purchase council owned land. The council does not keep details of who owns all land within the district. If a property or piece of land has been registered you may be able to establish ownership by contacting Nottingham District Land Registry on 0115 935 3619 or access the Land Register Online

The council's property services unit has the vision of:

  • Maximising the value and use of the council's land, commercial and operational property holdings, through the use of proactive property management initiatives, ensuring the minimisation of voids and rent arrears.
  • To ensure that property space utilisation meets corporate service objectives both now and in the future.
  • To identify and dispose of surplus council assets on a rolling program, subject to the receipt of Committee approval and other statutory consents required. The council can utilise such capital receipts to either improve the existing property portfolio or to reinvest into frontline services or to aid delivery of council strategy.
  • To provide a professional advice service to internal customers.
  • To provide an efficient service to members of the public.
