Climate Week, held from March 12 to 18, raises awareness of how we can all do our bit to help the environment.
South Derbyshire District Council, East Staffordshire Borough Council and North West Leicestershire District Council are teaming up for the second year in a row to inspire residents, organisations and community groups to get involved.
And organisers have stated: “Everyone can help to make a difference.”
Potential ways to get involved during the week include monitoring and reducing energy consumption, car sharing, carrying out an environmental project or attempting some of the challenges set up on the Climate Week website.
Other ideas include low carbon coffee mornings, fundraising for environmental projects, planting trees, growing food and recycling.
Kate Allies, who is co-ordinating Climate Week in The National Forest, said: “All three Councils are pleased to be working with our partners, including The National Forest Company, to highlight the ways in which we can all make a difference.
“We would like to encourage all businesses, schools and members of the community to celebrate their successes and join us in the drive to reduce carbon emissions by getting involved with Climate Week.”
An array of activities are being organised for everyone to enjoy across The National Forest, including an electric bike relay, a farmers’ market, climate workshops, tree planting and exhibitions. The full line up will be revealed nearer the time.
Last year, thousands of people across the three areas took part in dozens of events.
