Tenants invited to look at life through a lens

27 January 2012

South Derbyshire District Council tenants are being invited to look at life through a lens as part of a special contest.

Budding David Baileys of all ages and abilities can take part in the first ever photography competition run by Housing Services.

Judges will be looking for vibrant, interesting and creative images celebrating South Derbyshire over the last 12 months.

Prizes, donated by High Street retailer Max Spielmann, Stretton-based Dave Nunn Studios and Swadlincote photographers Simon Rose and Helen Jacks, are on offer for those that impress.

Image ideas for the District’s 3,000 plus tenants include parks, beauty spots, landscapes, buildings, architecture, community events and groups, schools, gardens, homes as well as sporting clubs or events.

Cllr John Lemmon, Chairman of Housing and Community Services at South Derbyshire District Council, said: “We are always looking at new ways to engage with our tenants.

"This competition provides a good opportunity for them to explore the local environment, show how they view South Derbyshire and demonstrate their creativity.”

The competition is open to all Council tenants across the district.

Prizes and a certificate will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for the under 18 and over 18 categories. A further three runners-up for each category will receive a certificate.

A maximum of two photographs can be submitted per entrant and can be black and white or colour, but must not be digitally enhanced or otherwise altered. The closing date for entries is 5pm on Wednesday, March 14.

An entry form and list of competition rules is available by telephoning 01283 595788 or emailing tp@south-derbys.gov.uk.
