What is Overview and Scrutiny?
Overview and scrutiny enables elected Members to undertake reviews of services and to scrutinise matters affecting South Derbyshire.
It offers an extra dimension to decision-making in local government and has an important contribution to make to service improvement. The Committee's role is externally focussed in the main, working with Councillors, officers, partners, other organisations and individuals. It reviews services both at the Council and in other organisations that affect residents of South Derbyshire, to ensure that they best meet the community's needs
Scrutiny's role and powers have been extended in recent years. The introduction of Local Area Agreements, the Councillor Call for Action and scrutiny of Crime and Disorder issues are specific examples.
