The South Derbyshire Partnership

The South Derbyshire Partnership (Previously South Derbyshire Local Strategic Partnership, LSP) is a group of people representing public services, local businesses, community groups and residents.

Its main role is to work together to help improve South Derbyshire, concentrating on the things local people have said are important for a better South Derbyshire. It is doing this through South Derbyshire's Sustainable Community Strategy.

By working together, bigger and better things will be achieved rather than if one organisation was working on its own.

The partnership has a board who make decisions on things like strategy and finance.

The board is made up of 24 individuals who represent organisations based in four key sectors: local authorities, other public bodies, private sector interests, and the community and voluntary sector. Appointments from each sector have been made through a mixture of elections and nominations.

The board members represent the following organisations:

  • South Derbyshire District Council
  • Derbyshire Constabulary
  • Derbyshire County Council
  • Derbyshire Association of Local Councils
  • Derbyshire Connexions
  • Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust
  • Old Post Regeneration Association Ltd
  • Environment Agency
  • Sharpe’s Pottery and Heritage Trust
  • Trident Housing Association
  • South Derbyshire Chamber
  • Derbyshire Learning and Skills Council
  • Derbyshire Chamber of Commerce and Business Link
  • People Express
  • Groundwork Derby and Derbyshire
  • The National Forest Company
  • East Midlands Airport (Nottingham, Derby and Leicester)
  • Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK) Limited
  • Swadlincote 50 Plus Forum
  • South Derbyshire Council for Voluntary Services
  • South Derbyshire Citizen’s Advice Bureau
The board meets regularly with two of its meetings a year being held as a forum. All residents and any organisation with an interest in South Derbyshire are welcome to attend. Further details about the next Forum, together with its date and venue and the issues being discussed will be posted here nearer the time.

Five thematic groups work on delivering the actions in the community strategy and they each focus on a chapter in the strategy. Board members take part in and champion each of the group's work.

The Sustainable Community Strategy

The Sustainable Community Strategy for South Derbyshire is developed by the South Derbyshire Partnership.  It aims to improve the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of South Derbyshire by tackling those issues that are important to the local community and service providers.

The strategy is based on the views of local people; voluntary and community groups, businesses and other interested organisations. This has identified what needs to be done to improve the quality of life in the District over the next five years.

The strategy is based on five themes, and priorities for action. The themes are:

  • Healthier communities
  • Safer communities
  • Vibrant communities
  • Sustainable development
  • Children and young people

We produce an action plan each year setting out what the partners will be focusing on to contribute to the longer term vision.
