Best Value

Managing our performance is essential for the continuous improvement of the services we provide to you.

Introduced in April 2000 Best Value requires a local council to continuously seek improvement of its services ensuring they are efficient, effective and are of value for money.

In short the main things best value requires us to do are:

  • monitor performance against a national set of Best Value Performance Indicators (BVPI)
  • compare our performance to other councils including top performers
  • review how services are delivered
  • publish our performace together with targets for improvement each year in a Best Value Performance Plan (BVPP)

When we review our services we follow four key principles:

  • consult with you on how you believe the services are delivered and where improvement could be made
  • compare a service's performance against other local councils and private and voluntary sector organisations
  • challenge whether the current methods are efficient and effective
  • review competition to see if an efficient service can be achieved more effectively by other organisations
