Derbyshire County Council is responsible for education and learning in South Derbyshire.

Derbyshire

Nursery schools provide education for two to four-year-olds.

The Primary phase caters for pupils aged five to 11. Infant schools cater for five to seven year olds. Junior schools cater for seven to 11 year olds. Primary schools cater for five to 11 year olds.

Secondary schools provide education for pupils aged 11 plus.

Special schools cater for a variety of different ages. If your child attends a special school, they will have a statement of special educational needs.

You can apply by telephone if your child is starting school for the first time or transferring to junior or secondary school - Call Derbyshire on 08456 058 058.

  • In-year school application (opens in a new window) - parents wishing to move their child to another school other than at the normal transfer time e.g following a change of address.

You can apply by completing a paper application form. Paper forms are available from for the Appeals and Admissions team by emailing admissions@derbyshire.gov.uk. Or you can download a PDF version of the in-year primary and secondary application forms and accompanying guidance notes from the more information section.
