Dog Control Orders - Consultation

Join in with our consultation and let us know how you feel.

South Derbyshire District Council is taking the lead by reviewing Dog Control Orders across parks and open spaces.

Fifteen Dog Control Orders are in place to ensure pets are kept on leads in certain areas, while dogs are currently not allowed in 12 locations used by children or for sports. It’s also an offence not to clear up dog mess left on open land.

As the orders are more than three years old, the Council is looking to examine them to ensure they continue to have a positive impact. Questionnaires are now available as part of a public consultation encouraging suggestions and feedback.

Cllr Peter Watson, Chairman of Environmental and Development Services at the District Council, said:

“We are always striving to make South Derbyshire an even better place to live, work and visit.

“This consultation is being carried out to assist the Council in representing the best interests of those in charge of dogs against those affected by their activities. We’ll listen to all feedback and want any interested parties to have their say.”

Copies will also be sent to all parish councils and can also be accessed from libraries as well as the Civic Offices in Swadlincote.

The deadline for responses is September 26, after which formal proposals will be drawn up and further consultation is to be held.
