Carbon footprint

A carbon footprint is a way of working out how much of the greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide, your lifestyle generates. If you are aware of how much carbon dioxide you are responsible for you can make changes (often very small changes) which will significantly reduce your footprint.

Why reduce my carbon footprint?

Reducing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will make a difference to climate change. In addition reducing your carbon footprint can save you money and help you keep fit.

You can calculate your carbon footprint by using this link to the Carbon footprint calculator on the DirectGov website. To get the most accurate result from the calculator, you will need:

  • Your gas and electricity bills
  • Your annual mileage and miles per gallon, if you drive a motor vehicle
Ideas for how you can reduce your carbon footprint are available on the following page Reducing your Carbon Footprint
