Carbon footprint village project

Following on from the pilot project in Walton on Trent last year, villages across South Derbyshire were invited to take part in the new Carbon Footprint Village Project.

Thirteen villages applied to take part and Overseal was chosen mainly because of the obvious enthusiasm for the project shown by parish councillors and residents.

Carbon Footprint Village Project

This page will help to keep residents up to date with events and progress.

This year the project is being run in conjunction with Marches Energy Agency.

The idea behind the project is to reduce the carbon footprint of Overseal. We aim to achieve this by encouraging and enabling all villages, businesses and public services in the village to take part.

South Derbyshire District Council and Eon are working together to provide free loft and cavity wall insulation for residents of Overseal as part of the Low Carbon Community Project.

We will be visiting all residents over the coming weeks to complete a short survey form so that we can then arrange for the insulation to be carried out. If your house has already been insulated or you do not have a cavity wall, we can provide assistance towards the cost of other saving measures such as: thermostatic controls, draught proofing etc.

If you are interested in the scheme and would like to take advantage of this offer please contact the energy officer at the local Council on 01283 595974 or 01283 228719 to arrange a convenient time for us to call.

What the village will need to do

  • Provide a commitment to the project
  • Provide a working group to help motivate and communicate with the whole village
  • A large proportion of the village will need to complete a questionnaire
  • Change some of their daily routines in order to reduce the village carbon footprint
