As required by law, we have set up a new Licensing Committee to oversee and manage the licensing process. We have also produced a Licensing Policy Statement that explains how we will operate the licensing scheme for the next three years.

Licensing Act 2003 Policy Review

The Licensing Act 2003 requires us to prepare and publish a statement of Licensing Policy every three years. Our Statement of Licensing Policy was approved on 4 November 2004.

Latest review information

The Council’s Statement of Licensing Policy is currently being reviewed.  The review must be completed and a revised statement published by 6th January 2011.

The Council’s Statement of Licensing Policy is intended to provide information and guidance to applicants, objectors and interested parties on the general approach that the Council will take in terms of licensing during the next three years. The Licensing Act 2003 and the Government's Guidance on the law can be found on the website of the Department for Culture Media and Sport's (see link below) or our own web site.

The current Statement of Licensing Policy was approved on the 8th November 2007. In order to save paper, the new draft policy can be downloaded from the bottom of this page under 'Related Documents'. We would like your comments back to us by the 1st October 2010, in order to allow us to publish the new Policy by 6th January 2011. If comments are received in respect of the Policy after that date, then we will still consider them and if we believe that they would benefit the Policy, we will take it back to Council for amendment.
