Licensing - private hire operators

If you wish to accept or invite bookings for private hire vehicles, then you need a private hire operator's licence. This must be renewed annually.

Once licensed, you may sub-contract / employ a number of licensed private hire vehicles. A licensed private hire driver may not accept bookings unless, either he / she holds a current private hire operators licence, or is sub-contracted / employed by a licensed private hire operator.

A licensed private hire operator may pass a booking to another private hire operator providing the recipient operator is licensed by South Derbyshire District Council.

The operator is the first point of contact for the customer, (the general public).

A fee for an annual licence is required upon application. See the Fees and Charges document in the related documents section.
