Ideas into action - environmental services

We listen to our customers and try to change what we do in response to customer wishes. Here are a few examples:
Ideas into Action

Your Ideas

Our Actions

"Clean up litter and dumped rubbish faster"

We set up the Clean Team who deliver a rapid clean up service for public land.

They clean up dumped rubbish in less than one working day from it being reported.

"Clean up litter from the private jitties leading from Swadlincote High Street to the surrounding Car Parks."

We have spoken to the land owners and, where possible, agreed and, where not, enforced a satisfactory cleansing regime to ensure they are kept clean.

"Major adaptations to allow people with disabilities to keep on living at home should be provided more quickly"

We changed our architects, employed an extra member of staff, and asked Social Services to assess needs more quickly.

New applicants can now expect most* adaptations to be completed in less than 42 weeks.

* Major extensions, requiring planning permission etc may occasionally extend beyond this.

We’re still working on it …

You asked for "recycling of plastics alongside the cans bottles and paper currently collected from the kerbside"

Councillors and officers are working together to identify the most cost effective method and find the necessary funds to pay for this.

Outline plans for the introduction of such a scheme will be debated at the Environmental Services Committee 09 January 2007. Further announcements will follow…
