1. What do I do if I can't get all my rubbish in the bin?
Please recycle and compost as much as you can to minimise your waste - see the Recycling page for more information.
2. What if I still can't get all my rubbish in the bin?
You can take household rubbish to the County Council's household waste and recycling centre ("tip"), the site in South Derbyshire is on Park Road, Newhall and is open 8:30am to 6:00pm, 7 days a week.
Large families may be eligible for a larger bin.
3. Do you take any side refuse?
Our policy is that we will collect rubbish contained within the bin. Side refuse will only be taken during the Christmas/New Year period details of this will be included on collection calendar.
4. What happens if I have large items for collection?
We also operates a separate chargeable collection service for large bulky items such as beds, carpets, fridges etc. See the Bulky Collection page for more information.
5. How do I get a larger bin?

6. What should I do with my bin on collection day?
Put your bin at a suitable place at the boundary of your property. The crew will return it to the same place after it's been emptied. The bin should be put out for collection no later than 6.00am in the morning.
7. What if I can't manage to put my bin out?

8. What do I do if my bin gets missed or there is another problem?
Are you are confident that your bin was out for 6.00am and left in the correct presentation point? If so please contact the Customer Services Team on Tel. 01283 595 795 or e-mail customer.services@south-derbys.gov.uk to report this.
Before ringing, please check for any stickers on your bin which may indicate why the bin has not been emptied. For example, if the bin is overloaded or contains material which is not suitable, a sticker will be placed on the bin to inform you. If your bin has been genuinely missed, we will arrange for a return visit the following working day.
9. What if my bin gets damaged or goes missing?
If your bin is damaged during refuse collection we will arrange for the damage to be repaired or for a replacement bin to be delivered in due course. Please note however that if your bin is damaged by fire, or stolen there will be a charge to replace the bin. 10. What happens on Bank Holidays?
We do not collect refuse from properties on Bank Holiday Mondays, (Easter Monday, May Day, Spring Bank Holiday and Late Summer Bank Holiday). Instead we provide a refuse collection on the Saturday two days before the Bank Holiday Monday for affected properties.
The service operates as normal on Good Friday.

11. Are there any things I can't put in my bin?
Your wheeled bin is for normal household rubbish. Items such as concrete, soil, building rubble, car engine parts, etc. must not be put in the bin. Hot ashes should not be placed in the bin.
