Furniture re-use scheme

As part of our plans to reduce waste and increase recycling, we will be attempting to re-use any suitable items that we collect through our bulky waste collection service. This will benefit low-income families in the community as well as reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill.
Happy Homes furniture donation

The scheme started on 1 April 2007 and is being run in partnership with the YMCA Happy Homes scheme. It is anticipated that up to 150 tonnes of furniture and household goods per year will be re-used.

The Happy Homes Furniture Shops in Burton and Swadlincote (details below) are run with the help of volunteers and make donated furniture available to those unable to afford market prices.

How can I donate my unwanted furniture?

Simply contact us and arrange a bulky waste collection in the normal way. Alternatively, if you would prefer to donate direct, please call Happy Homes on 01283 220202.

If the furniture can be re-used, then it will be donated for re-use with the YMCA's Happy Homes scheme rather than going to landfill.
