Housing repairs - decoration and disturbance allowance

A decoration allowance is a payment we give to a tenant for one of the following reasons:
  • a new tenant going into their new home
  • following major repairs or programmed works within their home e.g. re-plastering

We calculate the payment on a room to room basis.

The decoration allowance is issued in a voucher form that tenants can exchange for goods at B and Q. (NB this only applies for goods classed as decoration materials). The voucher must be used within six months of issue.

How can I apply for a decoration allowance if I have major/programmed works?

To apply for a decoration allowance for major/programmed works you must put your request in writing to us with the following information:

  • your name
  • address
  • reason why you are requesting to receive this payment

Once we receive your request we will write back to you within 10 working days detailing our decision.
