Holiday activities

Listed below are details of some of the holiday activities* organised for children and young people across South Derbyshire that we run with partner organisations.

All the activities* South Derbyshire District Council are providing over the summer this year!


Test your skill levels at giant games including Jenga, snakes and ladders, connect four and chess. Take part in art and craft activities, space hopper races, Circus skills and many more free play opportunities. 
Or why not come and see how high you can jump on the Bouncy Castle.
Age: 8-16 years (under 8's can attend with a responsible adult).

Wheels Mobile

The Wheels Mobile will include a wide variety of equipment including Street Surfing Boards, Skate Boards, Mini Scooters, KMX Karts, and All terrain mobile mountain biking ramps and equipment. New for 2014 ... Roller Skates.

Safety equipment will be available to borrow.
We will be running competitions throughout the 6 week holidays on our Mountain Bike skills course and KMX track with chances to win a variety of prizes!
Age: 8-16 years (under 8's can attend with a responsible adult at all times). No booking required - just turn up!

Climbing Wall

How high can you climb? The full 9 meters? Come and try the mobile climbing wall, with overhangs and 6 faces to test your climbing skills!!

Xplorer Challenge

Explore the park, find the markers, complete the challenge, have fun together!
Come and join us as we Xplore the parks. Using a simple map of the park the aim is to find the points marked on the map and write down the name of the secret animal or colour.
Xplorer is a fun family challenge for children and their parents, grandparents and guardians. It is an outdoor navigational challenge for the whole family to enjoy and involves a healthy mix of physical activity and decision making.
No experience of map reading is necessary, and Xplorer is perfect for children as they can run around in a safe and friendly environment and will have a great adventure searching for the secret markers.
When you see the Xplorer logo come and join us as we Xplore the parks!

Sessions delivered as part of our main Summer Activity programme at Maurice Lea, Eureka and Newhall Parks as well as Rosliston Forestry Centre.

Village Games

Join Lee, the Village Games Officer at rural parks around South Derbyshire. Look out for the village games logo in the calendar and come and join in the fun with Welly Wanging, Tyre Rolling, Tug of War and much more!

Xtreme invites participants to take part in urban laser combat using the latest digital laser guns on your doorstep. Come and join us as we dodge and duck behind inflatable barricades, cargo nets and obstacles to see who can come out as the sharpest shooter. Plus…come and try some of the craziest sports around! Crazy catch, handball, ultimate frisbee dodge ball and much more!

Follow our Commonwealth van around South Derbyshire as it offers a variety of commonwealth inspired sports for all to come and have a go at. Competitions will be running in the inflatable arena throughout the school holidays with chances to win South Derbyshire Sport medals! Check out the calendar to see when the Commonwealth van is near you and what competition is going on each day!

Activities include: Athletics, Badminton, Volley Ball, Football, Cricket, Rounder’s, Tennis, Basketball plus many more…
