Holiday activities

All the activities South Derbyshire District Council are providing over the summer this year!

The full calendar of activities and where they are taking place is attached to this page.

The provision of all activities is subject to suitable weather conditions.

Consent forms must be completed before children take part in any of our activities.

Sports Mobile

2017 will see the return of the ever popular Sports Mobile, hoping to inspire the nation to participate in a wide variety of sporting activities and challenges.

The Sports Mobile will contain a range of sports kit suitable for all ages and abilities including football, cricket, tag rugby, tennis, dodgeball and athletics.

Also included, the human table football arena which will be used to play human table football, along with acting as an enclosed space in which young people can play different types of sport such as dodgeball, handball, uni-hockey, ultimate frisbee and many more.

For 2017 the Sports Mobile will also include a mountain bike challenge course which includes ramps and balance beams to test young people’s skills. Bikes will be provided but young people are encouraged to bring their own along). Safety equipment will also be provided.

Aimed at eight to 16 year olds, under eights can attend with a responsible adult at all times.

Play Mobile

Also returning again for 2017 is the Play Mobile. This van is always popular with the younger age group as its main attraction is our large bouncy castle. This provision also contains a range of play and craft activities such as:

  • giant Jenga
  • giant Connect Four
  • Space Hopper races
  • a selection of arts and crafts
  • parachute games.

Early rider bikes will also be a part of this provision to help those youngsters who are not yet able to ride a bike without stabilizers get in some practice in a safe and monitored environment.

Aimed at five to 12 year olds, under eights can only attend with a responsible adult at all times.

Adventure Mobile

This brand new provision will have two main features. The laser combat arena, one of our most popular pieces of equipment at large events and last year’s Big Fun Friday sessions and the new inflatable mountain climb. This provision will also have other equipment such as soft archery, rounders and circus skills.

The outdoor laser combat arena is made up of inflatable barricades, obstacles, cargo nets and tunnels for the participants to dodge, duck and hide behind whilst using the latest digital laser guns to ensure they experience the ultimate laser combat experience. Variations of games which can be played include solo and team games, capture the flag and quick draw to see who comes out as the sharpest shooter.

The inflatable mountain climb is fantastic for allowing young people of all ages and abilities to climb and explore in a safe and encouraging environment. This unit consists of a five metre ‘mountain’ with foam climbing steps, a bouncy castle base and is fully walled to ensure the safety of its users at any time. These walls are covered with a netting to allow parents easy viewing of their young ones conquering the wall!

Aimed at five to 16 year olds, under eights can only attend with a responsible adult at all times.

Evening sessions

Evening provisions for those people who wish to attend our sessions with their children but are unable to do so in the day due to work commitments! These sessions run from 6pm till 8pm and will either be the Sports Mobile or Adventure Mobile.

Big Fun Fridays

The Big Fun Friday event is an extended session which runs from 1pm till 4pm on Friday afternoons. Since the launch of these sessions in 2015, they have proved extremely popular with the public due to all of our provisions being at the same place at the same time!

Big Fun Fridays in 2017 will include the following provisions:

  • Sports Mobile, including the human table football inflatable
  • Play Mobile, including the bouncy castle.

Plus one of the following of your choice:

  • inflatable mountain climb
  • laser combat arena.

Parents and guardians

Please note that all of these activities are open public sessions in open public spaces and run on a drop in and out basis, meaning young people are free to come and go as they please. The staff working at these sessions are there to supervise young people when they are using our equipment only. We therefore recommend that parents or guardians remain at sessions and supervise their children at all times.
