Where can I find information on Sports Pitches?

There are a number of Council sports pitches available for hire to play football, cricket,  flat and crown green bowls and tennis at locations in the Swadlincote urban area. These facilities can be found at the following locations:

Football Pitches:

  • Woodhouse Sports Ground (3 pitches)
  • Chestnut Avenue Recreation Ground
  • Midway (2 pitches)
  • Newhall Park (1 pitch) 
  • Maurice Lea Memorial Park (1 pitch)
  • Oversetts Road Recreation Ground

Football pitches are generally booked on a block, season long basis, for both Saturday and Sunday usage.  They are generally out of commission for maintenance between May and the start of the season in September.

Cricket Pitches:

  • Eureka Park.  Available for hire April to September.

Bowling Greens:

  • Maurice Lea Memorial Park (1 flat & 1 crown)
  • Newhall Park (1 crown)
  • Eureka Park (1 crown). Available for hire April to September.

Tennis Courts:

  • Maurice Lea Memorial Park (6 courts)
  • Eureka Park (2 courts). Available for booking all the year round

Netball Courts

  • Maurice Lea Memorial Park. Available for hire April to September.
  • Eureka Park. Available for hire April to September.

How can I hire football pitches, cricket pitches, bowling greens and tennis courts?

For bowls and tennis we operate casual bookings. Contact either Maurice Lea Memorial Park (Church Gresley) on 01283 216362 or Eureka Park (Swadlincote) on 01283 215570 or simply turn up.

Are sports pitches available for competitions?

Yes, on a limited basis as described above. However, availability does depend on other commitments for the pitch in question. For advice on locations closest to you, their availability and their suitability for your needs please contact us using the details below.

How can I pay for the hire of a sports pitch?

Payments can be made in advance via telephone with credit card or directly by cheque or cash at the Civic Offices. See contact details below. Casual bookings can be paid for on site. You are advised not to send cash through the post. For more information on the charges for pitch hire and payment please contact us using the details below.

How can I obtain a weather forecast for a booked game?

If you have any concerns about the status of the pitch you have booked due to inclement weather, you should make contact in order to check that the pitch is still in a playable condition. Please contact us the day before your game is to be played using the contact details below.
