Morning
Conkers Discovery Centre makes a great start to the day! With 23 different outdoor activities: including lakeside walks, sculpture & nature trails, an assault course, train rides, adventure playgrounds & water play areas, indoors you will find 4 sensational discovery zones where you can get really close to the forest and experience it's life and energy and discover it's secrets. The Tree Top Walk and Enchanted Forest are both indoors and give a unique peek at the woodland canopy and forest floor. Workshops, special events and ranger-led activities are a regular part of the Conkers experience so check and see what is going on before planning your visit!
To end your morning why not spend some time in the specialist shops, the National Forest Art Gallery and the arts and crafts units where you can purchase gifts and watch crafts people at work.
Lunch
Conkers has two fully licensed lakeside restaurants, the Olive Tree and the Waterside Restaurant, providing a unique setting and atmosphere or you can get a full carvery meal at their newest restaurant, The Gallery. There is also a picnic area if you prefer to bring your own!
Afternoon
For the younger members of the family, a short drive away you will find
Beehive Farm or
Highfields Happy Hens, both of which have animal farms, children's play areas and walks around woodlands or lakes. Alternatively if the weather is wet there are several indoor soft play facilities in the area.
For an adrenaline-fuelled experience why not drop into Swadlincote's Ski and Snowboard Centre for a Sno-tube or toboggan ride down the Cresta Run?
Cycles can be hired from Rosliston Forestry Centre enabling you to discover their woodland trails or explore the surrounding countryside in a low-carbon, environmentally friendly style!
Evening
After a bite to eat at one of the local pubs or restaurants,
Conkers Discovery Centre has an outdoor amphitheatre which hosts a varied programme of entertainment and
Rosliston Forestry Centre is just about to open The Glade, a new venue for outdoor events. Alternatively Derby's Assembly Rooms and Burton upon Trent's Brewhouse Arts Centre are within a 15 minute drive, as are their multi-screen cinemas. A quick visit or telephone call to the local Tourist Information Centre will help you find out what is on in the area.
