History, heritage and forest folklore

The River Trent and the Trent and Mersey Canal are embedded in the area's history. Once used for trade, transport and to keep invaders at bay, the canal and river are now havens for wildlife and leisure. Cruise gently along the canal, while away the hours fishing, photograph otters and kingfishers or simply soak up the peace.

Click on the pictures or the links below to discover more about the area's industrial history, find places to visit, local activities, and some of the exciting events that take place during the year.
