As the new Argos catalogue hits the stores at the end of the week, South Derbyshire District Council is asking people to recycle their old copies.
Says Cllr John Bladen, Chairman of the Environmental and Development Services Committee, “In the first weekend of the launch of the Argos catalogue, over two million customers visit their stores to pick up a catalogue. And when people get the new catalogues they are bound to throw away their old one. With nearly 2,000 pages in these catalogues, that’s an incredible amount of paper. In South Derbyshire we are asking our residents to recycle their catalogues so that we don’t waste space in landfill sites.”
In South Derbyshire, the paper banks and the kerbside collections can also take away old phone directories and Yellow Pages.
Cllr Bladen continues, “There used to be a problem with the yellow dye in the paper, but not any more. Our recycling service accepts any form of paper, except for envelopes because of the glue and plastic address window. We can also take away cardboard, magazines and even junk mail.”
