Press release and photocall 20 June 2008
There will be a photocall at 12.15 pm on Monday 23 June, 2008 at Rosliston Forestry Centre where the Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council Cllr Mrs Ann Hood will be having a picnic with children from Church Broughton Primary School.
If you go down to Rosliston Forestry Centre on Monday 23 June, 2008 you're sure of a big surprise.
Because the Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council will be there for a picnic with Year 3 and Year 4 pupils from Church Broughton Primary School.
As she begins her year in office Cllr Mrs Ann Hood is going to Rosliston to learn more about the Environmental Education provided by South Derbyshire District Council.
Says Kate Allies, the Environmental Development Manager, “We will be looking at shape, pattern and colour in nature. Through the environment we will be able to develop the scientific and artistic skills of the pupils.”
“As part of their studies, the youngsters will be using magnifying glasses to look for patterns and paint colour charts to study colour. They will be looking what colour grass is. Surprisingly enough it’s not often green. There are some startling colours at the base of a blade of grass and the seed heads can have a dramatic range of hues.”
This is the first time that Cllr Mrs Ann Hood has visited Rosliston as Chairman of the Council.
Says Cllr Mrs Hood, “Like many people in South Derbyshire, I am proud that we have such a valuable resource in Rosliston Forestry Centre. It has something for everyone. We have an award-winning Environmental Education service for schools in the District and beyond where young people not only use nature to add to their knowledge, the Centre also encourages them to a healthy lifestyle. There are so many unusual and interesting activities available at Rosliston for people of all ages. And we also have tourist timber lodges so that people from the District, the country and even the world can stay some time to enjoy the delights of Rosliston Forestry Centre.”
