News release and photocall 26 June 2008
There will be a photocall at Green Bank Leisure Centre, Swadlincote at 1.00 pm on Wednesday 25 June, 2008 with the Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council, Cllr Mrs Ann Hood
Following a successful ten year partnership between SLM and South Derbyshire District Council, Green Bank Leisure Centre has received a £200,000 investment that includes the launch of SLM's new Everyone Active brand. This coincides with the announcement of an extension to SLM's contract for a further three years.
The investment has included improvements in the gym area where sixty new pieces of the latest state-of-the-art equipment has been installed and the complete refurbishment of the squash court facilities.
The investment also covered a new computer system to allow customers to gain faster entry at reception and make bookings for activities both at the centre and online, both of which enable customer to beat the queues.
As part of the Everyone Active rebrand, all customers will be given a free everyone active card which allows them to take advantage of special discounts, a free seven day or 28 day activity planner, access to all activities and Everyone Active centres nationwide, along with other benefits.
Customers who have already used the improved services have given very positive feedback to the changes.
Other future plans for Everyone Active at the Centre include the introduction of a kids' activity programme called Sporting FUNdamentals which is designed to engage with kids from as young as three years old to get them involved in activity. In addition the centre will offer a membership to young adults from 11 to 15 years old which entitles them to use the gym, participate in group exercise classes and swim at the centre for a reduced membership.
The centre already has a strong record with local children with over 1,500 kids on a very successful swimming programme, Splash School.
Commenting on the investment and extension of the management contract for SLM by three years, Councillor John Lemmon, Chairman of the Council’s Housing and Community Services Committee at South Derbyshire District Council said, "We've been very pleased with the way our partnership has developed with SLM and it is exciting that this launch and SLM's further investment at the site coincides with the signing of an extension to our partnership arrangements for a further three years."
