So that parking can be controlled by local authority rather than police wardens, an advertisement has appeared in the local press in South Derbyshire.
The advertisement lists all the public car parks in the District so that parking laws can be enforced such as making sure that drivers do not park in bays for disabled people and that cars are parked correctly within bays.
As part of the advertisement, payment for parking is mentioned, but there is no intention to start charging for public parking in South Derbyshire.
Says Carl Jacobs, South Derbyshire’s Commercial Standards and Licensing Manager, “There are no plans to charge for parking in public car parks”
The drive to have local authority wardens ensuring that drivers park correctly with consideration for other road users is welcomed by Cllr Heather Wheeler, Leader of South Derbyshire District Council.
Says Cllr Heather Wheeler, “South Derbyshire adds to its attractions to visitors and shoppers by not charging for parking. We welcome people to our District by not asking them to pay while they are bringing business to our shops and tourist attractions. We have no plans to introduce parking charges in the foreseeable future.”
