Fruity Friday

Cllr Heather Wheeler, the Leader of South Derbyshire District Council will be offering some fruity advice at Swadlincote Market on The Delph at 10 am on Friday 16 May, 2008.

There will be a special Fruity Friday stall on the market from 10am until 12 noon where Council staff will be encouraging people to eat five fruits or vegetables a day.

Says Cllr Heather Wheeler, “There will be a cornucopia of exotic fruits for people to test. You can have a go at guessing what they are and if you like them, you might search them out to try them again.

“You don’t have to eat unusual fruits to make your five a day. You can visit the fruit and veg stall which is always at the market or call into any greengrocers or supermarket to make sure that you have a healthy diet. Studies have shown that we can reduce our risk of cancer by up to 40% by making simple lifestyle changes such as eating lots of plant-based foods, eating more fruit and vegetables, watching our weight and taking regular exercise. South Derbyshire District Council is committed to help make local people healthier and so we are out and about in our community to encourage folk to think five a day. ”
