Chairman joins in Indian independence celebration

On Friday 15 August, 2008 Cllr Mrs Ann Hood, the Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council, will be joining members of the Sinfin and Stenson Fields Asian Over 60s Social and Welfare Club to celebrate over sixty years of the sub-continent’s independence.

Cllr Mrs Ann Hood and her consort County Councillor Frank Hood will be guests of honour at a special Indian independence lunch.

Says Cllr Mrs Hood, “India gained its independence from British rule on 15 August, 1947. It is the world’s largest democracy and second most populous country. The first civilisation in India along the Indus River stretches back to at least 2500BC. I am very honoured to be invited to such an important event and meeting people with such a rich heritage.”
