More people can now take part in South Derbyshire’s “New to Exercise scheme” following an increase in funding from Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust (PCT).
The scheme enables local people to get a twenty session exercise programme on prescription. To take part in the scheme, a person must be referred by their doctor’s surgery.
The scheme is based at Green Bank Leisure Centre and now exercise sessions are being offered at Hilton and Netherseal.
Says Cllr John Lemmon, Chairman of South Derbyshire’s Housing and Community Services Committee, “In South Derbyshire we work in partnership with other public services to make life better. The Council, SLM and Derbyshire County PCT are offering a scheme so that if you are over 16 and have a medical condition, you can go to see your health professional and Get Active on prescription.
“Green Bank Leisure Centre has a fully equipped gym for people who want to work on specialist equipment and now these new exercise sessions makes it easier for people in and around Hilton and Netherseal to get exercise on prescription. The sessions are held at Hilton Village Hall on Tuesdays and at Netherseal Village Hall on Thursdays. If you would like more information about gym sessions please call Stuart Hunt at Green Bank Leisure Centre on 01283 216269 or for community sessions Lewis Adams, South Derbyshire’s Community Sports Coach at the Civic Offices on 01283 595772 or email him lewis.adams@south-derbys.gov.uk
