The Civic Leaders of South Derbyshire will be attending three of the Remembrance Day Services being held in the District on Sunday 9 November, 2008.
At 10.00 am the Chairman, Cllr Mrs Ann Hood and her Consort County Councillor Frank Hood will attend the Remembrance Day Parade and Service at Eureka Park in Swadlincote.
At 10.45 am the Vice Chairman Cllr Pat Murray and his Consort Miss Sandra Roberts will attend the Remembrance Sunday Service at Melbourne Parish Church.
In the afternoon at 2.30pm the Chairman and her Consort will attend the Remembrance Day Service at Overseal Village Hall.
Says Cllr Mrs Ann Hood, “This year is the 90th anniversary of the Great War in 1919. This was spoken of as “the war to end all wars.” Sadly there have been so many other wars and conflicts where brave men and women have “laid down their lives for their friends” and for the whole of our country.
“I would like to invite the people of South Derbyshire to take part in one of the many commemorative services being held in the District where people of all faiths and of none can offer our thanks for people who have made the ultimate sacrifice and for those who have been injured by conflict.”
