The new leaders of the Salvation Army in South Derbyshire are going to be welcomed to the District by the Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council at a special service at 5.00 pm on Sunday 10 August, 2008 at the Salvation Army Citadel on Wilmott Road in Church Gresley.
Cllr Mrs Ann Hood and her Consort, County Councillor Frank Hood will be meeting Major Anthony Clifton and his wife Major Heather Clifton.
Says Cllr Mrs Ann Hood, “For over a hundred years, the Salvation Army has played a major role in our country. Not only is it a deeply valued religious organisation, it has been a force for good in our society. The Salvation Army is famous for its commitment to social work and care for others. We saw this compassion and practical help when the Pingle School in Swadlincote suffered a fire and the Salvation Army were there to support pupils, parents and teachers.”
“I am very pleased to welcome Anthony Clifton and Heather Clifton. I will be very interested to talk to Heather as the theme of my years is “A Woman’s Work.” I will want to find out more about her career in the Salvation Army and the role of women in the organisation.”
