Although the weather is so changeable, Cllr Mrs Ann Hood, Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council and her consort County Councillor Frank Hood will be wearing their sunglasses to help a good cause on Thursday 19 June, 2008.

They are supporting Shades for a Day which raises money for The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.

Says Cllr Ann Hood, "We also want to publicise the need for everyone to wear sunglasses to protect their eyes from ultra violet light. You don’t just need sunglasses on sunny days. UV rays and blue light are present all the time during daylight hours and they can do damage even when it's cloudy."

"I hope that people in South Derbyshire will wear sunglasses to protect their eyes and will make a contribution towards the work of The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association."
