Sporting award winners

South Derbyshire’s fifth Annual Sports Award Ceremony was held at The Pingle School in Swadlincote on Tuesday 23 September 2008.

The ceremony recognised the achievements of athletes, sports coaches, sports clubs and volunteers who play a part in running sport across the district. For the first time nominations were received for all fourteen categories of awards including Sports Team of the Year, Sports Club of the Year, Performance Coach of the Year, and Sports Person of the Year. Sports Grants were also awarded to South Derbyshire Sports Stars to help with the costs of their training and competing at County level and above.

This year the awards were kindly sponsored by a number of local and inspiring companies, such as the South Derbyshire School Sport Partnership, Wicksteed Playscapes, the Safer South Derbyshire Partnership and Aurora Country Developments, all of whom attended the evening’s event and presented a number of awards.

Winners of each category will now go through as nominees for the countywide Derbyshire Sports Awards event at Pride Park, Derby in November this year.
