Walk on the wildside

There’s a chance to discover wildlife in Linton on an evening walk being held at Badgers Hollow Nature Reserve, Coton Park, Linton on Tuesday 20 May 2008 at 7pm.

Says Cllr Heather Wheeler, Leader of South Derbyshire District Council, “Badgers Hollow Nature Reserve has been created on land owned by South Derbyshire District Council. In the transformation of a former coal transfer yard to a nature reserve, local people have been greatly involved in making South Derbyshire greener.

“Linton Parish Council has gained a Breathing Places Grant to help improve the access to this nature reserve and to increase community involvement in this valuable wildlife reserve. It is hoped that Badgers Hollow will become officially designated as a local nature reserve.”

The wildlife stroll on Tuesday night is begin led by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust officer Nick Law and Groundwork Derby & Derbyshire’ s officer Marion Horton. The walk is part of a series of community events.

Says Marion Horton, “Badger Hollows Nature Reserve is well worth a visit. We hope to be able to see a good variety of butterflies and birds. Everyone is invited and it’s free. There’s no need to book. Just come in study footwear and waterproofs and bring some binoculars if you have them. We will meet in the car park at Coton Park Recreation Ground, Coton Park Road, Linton.
