Civic Service

News release and photocall 26 June 2008

There will be a photocall before the Civic Service at Repton Village Hall at 10.20am on Sunday 29 June, 2008

Councillor Mrs Ann Hood, Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council will be holding her Civic Service at the parish church of St Wystan, Repton on Sunday 29 June, 2008 at 11.00 am.

The invited congregation include the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, the Mayors and Chairmen of local authorities in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire as well as many representatives from voluntary and charitable groups.

Says Cllr Mrs Ann Hood, "At the Civic Service, my husband Frank and I will be dedicating our lives for the Civic Year to the people of South Derbyshire. At the service will be representatives from some of the many community and voluntary groups which we will be visiting this year.

"Repton was the capital of the Anglo Saxon kingdom of Mercia. The parish church once held the bones of St Wystan and was a place of pilgrimage. I am sure that this ancient place of dedication and worship will inspire so many members of the congregation to continue to their work for our local communities."
